Profile

Philip W. Robinson leads a research programme on creating the next level of Audio Presence at Meta Reality Labs Research in Redmond, Washington State (USA). An overview of the team’s work can be found on the lab’s website.

Incorporating acoustic simulation and reproduction systems into building design processes was the focus of Philip’s work at the architecture firm, Foster + Partners. Before that, he was a Fulbright Scholar and post-doctoral researcher at Aalto University in Finland where he studied perception of concert hall acoustics, spatial auditory resolution, and echo thresholds. Other academic adventures have included being a visiting researcher at EPFL in Switzerland, and Hanyang University in South Korea. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY awarded Philip’s Ph.D. in Architectural Science in 2012.

In a past life, he was a registered architect in his home state of New Mexico (USA). Philip remains passionate about architecture, the study of which gave him a great interest in perception of environments, real or virtual.
